In 1909, a handful of engineers from Lille thought up a way to connect all three cities (Lille-Roubaix-Tourcoing) in order to facilitate exchanges. A crazy gamble at first, uniting the three major cities of Lille finally becomes a reality. 9.32 miles long and 54 yards wide, it had outlandish dimensions for the time.
To celebrate the centennial, a number of events were planned: exhibitions, street theatre and concerts embodied this celebration near the tramway stations.
